Ro:
Oceanul rămâne unul dintre cele mai misteriose și mai intrigante locuri de pe
planetă, probabil datorită faptului că e atât de greu de explorat. Totuși
minunățiile pe care le adăpostește și miile de vietăți pentru care e habitat pot
fi o abundentă sursă de inspirație pentru artiști și designeri din toate
domenii artistice. În modă au fost mulți designeri care au abordat diferite
aspecte ale vieții marine, fiind inspirați de corali, scoici, solzii peștilor,
meduze, stele de mare, căluți de mare sau de valurile care se formează la
suprafață. Alții și-au lasat imaginația să meargă mai departe de elementele
specifice oceanului și au folosit ca teme monștri marini sau creaturi
mitologige de oricine marină, precum sirenele. Cu toate în modă există
concepția greșită că o colecție trebuie să reprezinte emoții, stări psihice sau
emoționale, concepte abstracte (imateriale, non-empirice), designeri mai jos
menționați arată exact contrariul. Colecțiile sunt pornite de la elemente deja
existente în natură, dar prin intermediul lor induc privitorului o stare
emoțională, creează o atmosferă și ating non-empiricul din oameni. Mai jos am
enumerat 10 dintre colecțiile de modă care au avut viața marină ca sursă de
inspirație.
En: The ocean is still one of the
most mysterious and most intriguing places on Earth, probably because it is so
hard to explore it. Even so, the beauties that it holds and the thousands of
different creatures that it is a home for, can be an abundant source of
inspiration for artists and designers from all artistic departments. In fashion
a lot of designers approached different aspects of sea life, being inspired by
corals, shells, fish scales, jellyfish, starfish, sea horses or the waves that
are form at the surface. Others let their imagination flow and got inspired by
sea monsters or mythological creatures with origins in the ocean, like memaids.
Even though in fashion is the misconception of a collection that it must show
emotions, moods and states of minds, abstract concepts (immaterial,
non-empirical), the designers from down below demonstrated the contrary. These
collections are made of elements that already exists in nature, but through
them are induced to the viewers emotions, is created the atmosphere and reach
the inner non-empirical material in humans. Down below I made a list of 10
fashion collections that were inspired by sea life.
1. GIORGIO
ARMANI SPRING/SUMMER 2012 READY-TO-WEAR COLLECTION
Ro: Giorgio
Armani, designerul care a înființat casa de modă cu același nume, în anul 2012
a realizat o colecție inspirată de gama cromatică a apelor oceanice, folosind
nuanțe de bleumarin, gri perlat și verde grizat. Elementele marine pe care le-a
ales au fost scoicile, în special exteriorul lor sidefat, care în colecție
reiese prin materialul utilizat: majoritatea ținutelor sunt realizate din
mătase, sau conțin o abundentă broderie, ca aduce un alt fel de luciu pieselor
vestimentare. Croiul simplu accentuează valoarea materialelor utilizate,
ținutele variind între rochii lungii și deux-pieces,
sau, combinația cea mai interesantă, rochii cu pantaloni, accesorizate cu
brățări, cercei și genți de dimensiuni reduse.

Armani, the designer that created the fashion house with the same name, in 2012
created a collection inspired by the colors of the ocean waters, using shades of
bleumarin, pearle gray and light green. The marine elements that he used were
shells, especially their pearlescent exterior, which can be seen through the
material that he used: the majority of the garments were made of silk, or they
had heavy embroidment, which brought a different kind of shine to the
garments. The simple tailoring valorized the materials, the garments being or
long dresses and two-pieces, or, the most interesting combination of them all,
dresses with trousers, accessorised with bracelets, earrings and small-size
purses.

SPRING 2012 READY-TO-WEAR COLLECTION
Ro:
Donatella Versace a creat în 2012, pentru casa de modă Versace, o colecție inspirată de stelele de mare, redate printr-o
broderie realizată din țințe auri, căluți de mare, redați sub forma unor
printuri, și scoici, regăsite sub formă de broderie sau de print. Gama cromatică
utilizată amintește de albul perlelor, de albastrul mării liniștite și de
zilele însorite pe plajă. Ținutele în sine amintesc de plajă datorită bustierei
care se repetă sub diferite forme în colecție, în combinație cu fuste drepte,
pantaloni scurți sau ca parte componentă a unei rochii. Background-ul luminos
ajută, de asemenea, la crearea acestei atmosferii a unei zile senine.

starfish, shown as embroidery of golden pins, sea horses, shown in prints,
and shells, shown as embroidery or as prints. The colors that were used
reminded of white pearls, of blue sea waters and the of sunny days on the
beach. The garments themselves reminded of beach because of the top that was
repeated in different forms in collection, being combined with straight skirts,
short trousers and as a component part of a dress. The lighted background also
helped in creating the atmosphere of a sunny day.

3. JEAN
PAUL GAULTIER SPIRNG 2008 COUTURE
Ro:
Colecția intitulată „Mica sirenă spune:
Bună, marinare!”, după cum îi spune și titlul, a fost inspirată de sirene
și marinari. Rochiile sunt create în mare parte din solzi, care amintesc de
natura de pește a sirenei, dar sunt adăugate și alte elemente marine precum
scoici, alge, corali și stele de mare, sub formă de broderie, printuri sau
elemnte componente ale hainei. Prezența marinarului este regăsită prin pălăria
tipică și prin apariția dungilor pe ținute. Există un contrast evident între
forme, care fac referire la feminitatea sirenei și masculinitatea marinarului.
În ciuda faptului că majoritatea ținutele sunt rochii, ca element vestimentar
tipic feminin, însăși colecția fiind categorizată ca feminină, apar ocazional
pantalonii pentru a sugera prezența masculină a marinarului. Nota cea mai
importantă e făcută de freză: părul ud și aranjat în valuri te duce cu gândul
la apariția unei sirene la suprafața apei, pentru a întâlni marinarii.

collection entitled „Little Mermaid says
`Hello, Sailor!`”, like the title says, it was inspired by mermaids and
sailors. The dresses were created from fish scales, which reminded the fish
nature of the mermaid, but there are added other marine elements like shells,
seaweed, corals and starfish as embroidery, prints or components of the
garments. The presence of the sailor is made by the typical hat that they wear
and by the apparition of the strips on garments. There is an obvious contrast
between forms, which shows the femininity of the mermaid and the masculinity of
the sailor. Despite the fact that the majority of the garments are dresses, as
a typical piece of clothing for women, the collection itself being categorized
as female fashion, occasionaly there are trousers that suggest the masculinity of
the sailor. The most important part of the collection was the hair style: the
wet hair and its waves reminded of the way that mermaids are portrayed when
they are around sailors.

GIVENCHY SPRING 2012 READY-TO-WEAR COLLECTION

Riccardo Tisci a creat pentru casa de modă Givenchy
în 2012 o colecție inspirată de surffer-i și sirene. Atenția este pusă pe croi,
volanele care se regăsesc în majoritatea ținutelor amintesc de mișcarea algelor
sub apă, fiind puse în contrast cu pantalonii și fustele drepte. Gama cromatică
variază de la rozuri și alburi perlate, la un verde grizat (amintind de alge)
și apoi la negru. Unele ținute sunt redate din solzi, fiind vizibilă sursa de
inspirație marină, altele redau tema marină prin volumul lor sau prin felul în
care haina se mișcă în timp ce e prezentată de către model. În ciuda faptului
că ținutele sunt aparent simple, complexitatea lor stă în detalii, reușind să
transpită perfect intențiile designer-ului fără a avea elemente care să te
trimită imediat cu gândul la viața marină.

The attention is pun on tailoring, the flounces that can be seen in the
majority of the garments reminded of the seaweed movements in water, and it
contrasts with the straight cut of the trousers and skirts. The color varies
from pearlescent pink and white, to light green (reminding of seaweed) and
black. Some garments are made of scales, the inspiration sources being well
seen, others make the source be seen on their volumes and some let it be seen
in the way the garments move during the presentation. Despite the fact that the
garments seem simple, their complexity is shown in the details, showing
perfectly the intention of the designer without linking immediately the
collection with the sea life.

5. HOLLY
FULTON SPRING 2012 READY-TO-WEAR COLLECTION
Ro:
Conceptul de la care Holly Fulton a pornit colecția în anul 2012, a fost mai
degrabă o mini poveste: „Este vorba de o femeie care merge în vacanță și își
cheltuie toți banii pe haine”, a declarat Holly pentru Vogue Magazine. Colecția
amintește de zilele însorite datorită galbenului saturat folosit, de plajă și
de mare, datorită nuanțelor de albastru, datorită printurilor și broderie. Elementele
marine pe care le-a folosit au fost scoicile, regăsite în mare parte stilizate
și reinterpretate ca printuri, coralii, stilizați și regăsiți sub formă de
broderie sau printuri, stele de mare, din care a elaborat un print regăsit pe
mai multe ținute, și, bineînțeles, valurile marii, regăsite atât în nuanțele de
albastru folosite, cât și sub forma unor valuri brodate pe rochii. Sursa de
inspirație e cel mai clar regăsită în rochiile care pe întreaga lor suprafață
au redate scene stilizate ale vieții marine. Iar accesoriile precum ochelarii
de soare, sacoșele și baticurile/bandanele amintesc de asmenea de plajă și de
zile însorite.

„It is about a woman that blows up her money on clothes on holiday”, says Holly
for Vogue Magazine. The collection reminds of the sunny days because of the
saturate yellow that it is used, of beach and sea, because of the blue shades, and
because of prints and embroidery. The marine elements that she used are
shells, shown in most parts as a stylized pattern, corals, stylized and
emboidered or printed on garments, starfish, seen in a elaborated stylized
pattern, and, of course, waves, seen or in the blue shade that she used, or in
the embroidery. The inspiration source is the most clear on those dresses
that have an entire sea life scenes displayed on their surface. And the accessories
like sunglasses, bags and bandanas remind as well of the sunny days on the
beach.

CHANEL SPING 2012 READY-TO-WEAR COLLECTION
Ro: Karl
Lagerfeld a creat pentru Chanel in
2012 o colecție insipirată de scoici, căluți de mare, alge și corali. A dorit
să arate latura magică și elegantă a vieții sub apă. Gama cromatică e realizată
pe baza contrastul complementar între roz-oranj și verde-albăstrui. Prezența
scoicilor se face simțită prin nuanțele perlate de roz, gălbui și alburi, și mai
ales prin prezența perlelor brodate pe ținute și utilizate ca referință.
Coralii se pot regăsi în texturile sau în multitudinea de culori de pe o suprafața
unei singure ținute, iar prezența algelor se regăsește în nuanțele de verde
albăstrui utlitzate și în câteva dintre texturile hainelor. De asemenea, apariția
dresurile de baie e o referință directă la plajă, deci la mare/ocean. De
remarcat e machiajul, fiecare model având ori mici perle pe față, ori fard
sidefat pe pleope care redau conceptul colecției la nivelul feței. În ciuda
faptului că sursa de inspirație nu e imediat sesizabilă în colecție,
referințele la sursă sunt subtil redate în detaliile ținutelor.

Lagerfeld created for Chanel in 2012
a collection inspired by shells, sea horses, seaweed and corals. He wanted to
show the magical and elegant part of the underwater life. The colors are based
on the complementary contrast between pink-orange and bluish green. The
presence of the shells are shown in the pearlecent shades of pink, yellow and
white, and even more in the presence of the pearls, used as embroidery and as
a reference to the shells. The corals can be seen in the textures and in the
multicolored dresses, and the seaweed can be seen in the bluish green used and
in some of the garments textures. Even more, the appearance of the swim suits
is a direct reference to beach, so to the sea/ocean. Importantly, the makeup
shows the collection`s concept
on the face, or through the little pearls put on the models faces, or through
the pearlescent shades on the eyelid. Even though the sourse of the inspiration
are not immediately seen, the references to it are made in the details of the
garments.

7. VALENTINO
SPRING 2011 COUTURE COLLECTION
Ro: Cei
doi designeri ai casei de modă Valentino,
Pier Paolo Piccioli și Maria Grazia Chiuri, au creat o colecție care pune
accentul pe eleganță. Elementul marin folosit ca sursă de inspirație a fost
meduza, care e elegantă atât prin mișcarea ei, cât și prin transluciditatea
specifică. Materialele de bază ale colecției au fost voalul și tulul, elegante
prin textura lor și care fac referință la meduze datorită translucidității lor,
fiind puse în contrast cu broderie opacă sau lucioasă. Volanele rochiilor
amintesc de mișcarea meduzelor, iar stratificarea ținutelor amintește de felul
în care e compus corpul unei meduze. Gama cromatică e bazată pe culori pale și
foarte deschise, nuanțele variind de la bej, cafeniu și crem, la roz și alb.
Aceasta este una dintre colecțiile în care se poate sesiza cel mai greu sursa
de inspirație marină, dar rămâne una dintre colecțiile care exprimă cel mai
bine spiritul sursei de inspirație: elenganța meduzei.

jellyfish, which is elegant not just in its movement, but in its specific
translucency too. The main materials used were veil and tulle, elegant in their
texture and because they resemble the jellyfish`s translucency best, being in
contrast with opaque or shiny embroidery. The flounces of the dresses remind
of the jellyfish movements and the stratification of the garments remind of the
jellyfish`s body. The colors are pale and very light, and veries from beige,
cream and coffee colored, to pink and white. In this collection the inspiration
source is the most hard to link, but it remains one of the collections that
resemble the best the spirit of it`s source: the elegance of the jellyfish.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN SPRING 2010 READY-TO-WEAR COLLECTION
Ro: Alexander McQueen e recunoscut pentru colecțiile sale
inedite și pentru estetica grotescului pe care o evocă. Astfel că pentru el nu
a fost suficientă o surs[ de inspirație de natură oceanică, motiv pentru care a
dus la extrem această idee, realizând o colecție prin care aduce la viața
monștri marini. Rochiile sunt printate digital, fiind realizate într-o gamă
cromatică bazată pe contrastul complementar oranj-albastru. Forma și volumul
rochiilor, împreună cu printul, crează un efect ciudat, dar fascinant, care nu
doar că amintește de un monstru marin, ci te lasă te-a dreptul să îl descoperi
în ținută. Solzii sunt elementul cel mai ușor de recunoscut în ceea ce privește
sursa de inspirație, ultima ținută a colecție fiind piesa de rezistență a
acesteia. De remarcat sunt machiajul și freza. Machiajul șterge orice urmă de
frumos de pe fețele modelelor, accentuându-le funtea și ștergându-le complet
sprâncenele. Iar freza amintește de aripa unui rechin, doar că e dublată.

was not enough a marine source of inspiration, the reason why he took to the
extreme this idea, creating a collection which brings to life sea monsters. The
dresses are digitally printed, the colors used are based on the complementary
contrast between orange and blue. The forms and the volumes of the dresses, together
with the print, created a wierd, but fascinating effect, which is not just a
reminder of a sea monster, but you can literally see the monster in the
garment. The fish scales are the elements most easy to recognize from the
inspiration source, the last garment being the main peeice of the collection.
The makeup and the hairstyle are important. The makeup erase the beauty in the
models, focusing on the forehead and erasing completely the eyebrows. And the
hairstyle reminds of shark`s fin, but doubled.

Ro: După doi ani, Sarah Burton, pentru casa de modă Alexander McQueen, a revenit la tema
marină, de această dată luând ca sursă de inspirație coralii și peștii pentru a
crea zeițe ale mării. Formele și mișcarea ținutele amintește de cozile și aripile
peștilor aurii. Învolburarea volanelor, măștile dantelate purtale de modele,
broderia realizată din franjuri cilindrici și dantela de pe ținute amintește de
textura coralilor. Gama cromatică e la fel de complexă precum ținutele.
Colecția începe cu nuanțe de alb-auriu, care amintește de pești aurii, urmează
un roz pal, făcând aluzie la scoici, fragmentat de un albastru grizat care
amintește de apă, apoi urmează un negru lucios, fragmentat de ținute roșii,
care sugerează prezența coralilor, revenindu-se spre final la auriu și la
albastrul grizat. Elementul vestimentar crucial pentru colecție este masca pe
care o poartă modele. Chiar dacă masca acoperă identitatea personajului, nu ii
știrbește frumusețea, înlocuiște machiajul și este elementul distinctiv al
colecției per ansamblu.

theme, but this time the main sources of inspiration were corals and fish for
creating the goddesses of the sea. The forms and the movement of the garments remind
of fin and tale of a golden fish. The agglomeration of flounces, the lace masks
worn by models, the embroidery made of cylindrical fringes and the lace of the
garments reminded of the corals texture. The colors used are as complex as the
garments themselves. The collection begins with pale golden shades, reminding
of golden fish, followed by a pale pink, alluding to shells, fragmented by a pale
blue which recalls water, next is a glossy black fragmented by red garments,
suggesting the presence of corals, in the end is returning to gold and pale
blue. The most crucial fashion element used in collection is the mask worn by
models. Even though it hides the identity of the character, it is not taking
away their beauty, it is replacing the makeup and is being the distinctive
element of the entire collection.

10. ELLIE SAAB SPRING 2015 READY-TO-WEAR COLLECTION
Ro: Colecția realizată de Elie Saab în 2015 este
intitulată „Scufundâbdu-te în oaceanul albastru”, un titlu extrem de sugestiv,
aratând sursa de inspirație oceanică. În ciuda reputație pe care Elie Saab o
are în materie de broderie, aceste ținute au fost „curățate”, punându-se
accentul pe culori și pe croi. Gama cromatică e cea mai sugestivă parte a
colecției. Este bazată pe contrastul complementar de ornaj și albastru. Colecția
începe cu ținute care au amestecuri de oranj și albastru, urmând ca cele două
culori să aibe momentele lor de strălucire. Oranjul exprimă influența tropicală
a colecției, pe când albatrul sugerează originea oceanică. Ținutele par a fi
făcut literarmente baie în ocean, fiind ori monocrome (albastre), ori având
degradeuri spre negru. Dantelăria care apare ocazional este o referință la
textura coralilor, apărând pe alte ținute sub formă de incizii pe torace,
amintitnd de branhii.
En: The collection created in 2015 by Elie Saab is
entitled „Diving in the blue ocean”, a title that suggests the oceanic source of
inspiration. Despite the fact that Elie Saab is well known for his heavy embroidery, these garments were „cleaned”, focusing on colors and tailoring. The
colors were the most suggestive part of the collection. They are based on the
complementary contrast between orange and blue. The collection begins with a
combination of orange and blue garments, followed by their own spotlight
moments. The orange express the tropical influence of the collection, and the
blue suggest the oceanic origins. The garments seem to have been literally diving
in the ocean, a part of them being monochrome, and a part having a gradient
effect. The lacing that occasionaly appear is a reference to the coral`s
texture, on some garments being as incisions on the chest, reminding of fish gills.
